CareerX@AISC
Real-world experiences. Future-ready students.
CareerX provides our high school learners the chance to work alongside experts in a variety of immersive professional environments. These opportunities, designed in partnership with leading organizations, allow our students to explore interests, gain exposure, hone their skills, and make real contributions in work environments that support growth and development.
Our students have benefited from immersive explorations in Sustainability, Photography, Healthcare, Fitness and Wellbeing, and Social Entrepreneurship.
To learn more about the opportunities on offer this year, or if you would like to partner with us to offer hands-on professional experiences, please email us at advancement@aischennai.org.
Please note that CareerX opportunities occur during our fall, winter, spring, and summer breaks.
Work experience in a field you are interested in is a great way to get insights about a future career and understand the various options within a chosen field. The connections you make during your CareerX may even yield opportunities for you in the future. It is also a great way for you to use the knowledge and skills you have gained in your courses in a real-world context.
AISC places students during school holiday times. Currently, week-long placements are available during the fall and spring breaks. Longer placements are possible during the winter and summer breaks.
You will have a primary contact both at AISC and at your workplace.
At AISC, the Advancement Office will meet with you to discuss your interests and strengths and will help to set up a suitable placement. There will also be opportunities to sign up during Crew time. We use data from student interest surveys to help us find partner organizations that match our learners’ varying interests. And our roster of key partners continues to grow!
At work, you will have a supervisor that you report to. This will be the person that assigns tasks to you and will make sure that you are given an orientation to the company, introduce you to other staff members, etc. If ever you have questions about your workplace or assignment expectations, this is the first person you should ask.
Please note, parents will not be communicating with CareerX partner supervisors. Any parent concerns should be directed to the AISC contact that has been assigned. One of the most valuable opportunities we are giving to students is teaching them how to navigate workplace culture. The AISC primary contact is always available to help students navigate any issues that come up.
See our CareerX guidelines here.
All AISC CareerX placements are unpaid.
This will vary from organization to organization. Ideally, a work assignment will provide a student with a variety of tasks to complete while still meeting the needs of the organization. Experiences tend to be project-based, affording the opportunity to work in teams. Generally, there is a culminating deliverable that the student is responsible for. Here are some tasks that an intern might be asked to do:
- Design posters, charts, graphs
- Perform laboratory tests
- Conduct surveys/studies
- Develop slide/sound presentations
- Conduct research
- Work on a marketing plan for a product or service
You are not alone! Many students are uncertain of their career interests. Get advice from the trusted adults around you such as your counselors, teachers, and parents. And remember, CareerX is an opportunity to discover whether a career path does hold interest. So view this as an opportunity to explore and learn!
Seek out experiences and connections with full-time staff members at the company. This is a great way to learn more about the organization and to make a good impression. Keep in mind that carrying out tasks with enthusiasm signals to an employer that you are invested in the experience and can be trusted with more responsibility.

My CareerX experience could be divided into 2 main projects. Firstly, I made one short presentation about the importance of EPO medicines while on dialysis and the danger of kidney failures. I haven't finished yet, but I still am working to manage a donation to the Tanker foundation. Throughout the project, I really needed to understand how the kidney situation here in India is very serious. I developed a basic medical understanding on why kidney failures occur, what the process of dialysis is, why EPO medicines are needed during dialysis, and how the NGO helps the patients who do not have enough money.

"At Shilpa Architects, my group had to come up with ideas for sustainable architecture and present designs for a park. I developed collaborative skills over the week and explored the more technical features of sustainable architecture. I have interest in architecture as a possible course to pursue in college, so this experience exposed me to different parts of the field and gave me a more in-depth idea of what it could entail. And, my supervisor guided me to a better understanding of architecture and helped clarify my questions.”

The awareness presentation created has helped us raise significant funds for our foundation. She is exceptionally talented and very committed with deep empathy for those suffering from kidney disease. Her wonderful awareness video is greatly appreciated by all at TANKER.

My key project was organizing a donation drive for books and school supplies. I learned a lot about the specifics and the detail that requires planning a donation drive like this. Prior to this experience, I had never organized something like this. During this process, I realized the number of steps required like getting approval for the idea, making posters and seeking approval to put those posters up etc.

Overall, I really enjoyed CareerX, as I was able to delve into the Journalism world and improve my writing skills. Through interviews with senior journalists and opening insights, I am really grateful for this experience. My key project was an article discussing the effects of Covid-19 on a child's mental health, and how parents can help. I learned a lot really, and how I could clarify my writing more, and format it to look well. I am really grateful for this experience, and appreciate the learning I received.
